The Phantom Movie Deserves A Sequel

In an on-line article published on the CBR.com website titled, 10 Classic Superhero Movies That Deserved Another Sequel, on the 5th of December 2021, we find the Phantom movie listed amongst others.

Consisting of a list of 10 superhero movies, the article written by Damion Damaske lists the 1996 Phantom movie starring Billy Zane as a movie which deserves a modern day sequel.

Appearing at number 6 on the list, Damion notes:

The Phantom, starring Billy Zane as the eponymous, purple-clad Phantom, is a fun, high-flying adventure film in the mold of The Rocketeer or 1999’s The Mummy. Like them, it perfectly captures the pulp jungle adventures of the ’30s – ’40s with a slick gloss of ’90s pizzazz to give it some extra flare.

Zane was extremely charming in the lead role, which isn’t an easy feat considering the goofy costume he was forced to wear! Honestly, another sequel to The Phantom would be worth it just to see Zane slam evil again, as well as open up more of the series’ incredibly deep lore.

Published on the ComicBook.com website, we read an article titled, ‘The Phantom Star Billy Zane Would Like Another Shot at the Hero‘ written by Patrick Cavanaugh on the 14th of December, 2021.

Billy Zane, who starred as the Phantom in the 1996 Phantom Movie, alongside Kristy Swanson as Diana Palmer and directed by Simon Wincer, has said that he considers the Phantom as a role he wishes to revisit.

“To be honest, a Phantom return would be quite interesting. 20 years later, it’s a father-to-son business and a bit of a hand-off”.

“And I dug him because he didn’t have superpowers, really. It was just kind of super-humane. Again, that moral compass could be a nice reminder. So, right out of the comic universe, I’d say that character would be a hoot.”

We first saw the Phantom on the big screen in 1943 in black and white in The Phantom Serial featuring Tom Tyler playing the part of the Phantom.

The Phantom again appeared on our big screens 53 years later in 1996 staring Billy Zane as the Phantom.

Lets hope we don’t have to wait so long to see the Phantom jump off the pages of our comic books, and onto the big screen!!!
