The Phantom vs. The Singh Brotherhood by Mad Cave Studios

The U.S. based publishing house Mad Cave Studios will be releasing a new one-shot comic book featuring the Phantom.

Titled ‘The Phantom vs. The Singh Brotherhood‘, this new one-shot comic book has started appearing for preorder online, a new comic book published by Mad Cave Studios. This edition is an innovative standalone new comic book featuring the Phantom battling one of this oldest nemesis The Singh Brotherhood, complementing their established series of ‘The Phantom‘, ‘Defenders of the Earth‘ and other one-shot comic book editions.

For Those Who Came In Late…

The Singh Brotherhood serves as the primary and most enduring antagonist in Phantom comic strip adventures. Introduced by the Phantoms creator Lee Falk in the very first newspaper strip story, “The Singh Brotherhood” (commencing on the 17th of February 1936), they’re depicted as an ancient, multi-generational pirate syndicate that has plagued the seas for over four hundred years. It was a brutal attack by the Brotherhood on a merchant ship in 1536 that resulted in the death of Christopher Walker’s father, leading Christopher to swear the “Oath of the Skull” and become the first Phantom. This established a centuries-long blood feud between the Walker lineage and the criminal organization.

In Phantom comic strip adventures, the Brotherhood is characterized by its immense secrecy and rigid hierarchy. Traditionally based in the hidden underwater city of Krakatan or remote mountain strongholds, the group operates through a network of spies and assassins. While they began as traditional seafaring pirates, the modern iterations of the Brotherhood in the strips have evolved into a sophisticated global crime syndicate involved in everything from high-tech smuggling and international espionage to political subversion, making them a recurring threat that transcends any single era of the Phantom throughout his generations.

The leadership of the Brotherhood has frequently been a focal point with Phantom storylines, most notably through the character of Kabai Singh. His interactions with the 21st Phantom highlighted the personal nature of their conflict, blending ruthless villainy with a strange, mutual respect for the longevity of their respective “dynasties”. Over the decades, various strip creators have expanded on their lore, portraying them not just as common criminals, but as a dark mirror to the Phantom’s own legacy, a shadow organization that, like the Phantom himself, refuses to die, ensuring that the jungle protector always has a formidable foe to contend with.

This new all original story and artwork comic book, available for pre-order, will contain approximately 40 full color pages, authored by Ray Fawkes, illustrated by Russell Mark Olson and lettering by Taylor Esposito, is due for release on the 19th of August 2026.

The description seen in online advertisements reads:

THE PHANTOM WALKS. EVIL DIES. It’s all come down to this—The Phantom vs. Arif Singh and his Brotherhood! After the Brotherhood’s failed attack on Bangalla, Singh was all set to rot in prison. But concrete walls cannot stop the man who controls one of the most notorious criminal enterprises in the world. Only The Phantom can. Or this time, he might just die trying.

Mad Cave Studios have released two front cover variants for The Phantom vs. The Singh Brotherhood, each providing a unique visual take on the intense conflict between the Ghost Who Walks and his ancient enemies. While both covers depict a high-stakes struggle, they differ significantly in artistic style and tone:

  • Cover A (seen below left), illustrated by Mark Spears, depicts a visceral, neon-soaked close-up of a bearded assailant locking the Phantom in a powerful chokehold. The Phantom’s face is contorted in a grimace, eyes glowing white, as he desperately pries at his attacker’s arms with hands that prominently display the signature Skull Ring. Striking high-contrast lighting, featuring acidic greens, deep purples, and fiery orange highlights emphasizes the raw muscular tension and kinetic energy of the struggle.
  • Cover B (seen below right), illustrated by Freddie Williams II and Andrew Dalhouse, presents a gritty, high-stakes confrontation set against a fortified compound background. In the foreground, a massive, bearded adversary looms over the frame, clutching a blood-stained knife. Facing him is a battered and bloodied Phantom, whose purple suit is torn from battle as he stands defiantly near a chain-link fence topped with barbed wire. The scene is illuminated by harsh searchlights from a watchtower, creating a tense atmosphere.

Although the front cover indicates that this is edition number one, the comic book is being advertised as a one-shot publication, with no further editions in this series anticipated after this release.
