An iconic piece of original Phantom comic cover art by George Wilson is currently being offered via auction at Hake’s Auctions in USA.
The cover art is found on the USA comic book series by Gold Key, number 8, published in August, 1964. More information about this series can be seen HERE
Hake’s Auctions have described this art in their auction listing as:
12.5×17″artboard comes w/vintage mat that was once glued to artboard. Mixed media original art for cover to “The Phantom” #8, published by Gold Key Aug. 1964. Action-packed cover by George Wilson shows The Phantom battling men on a rooftop, one man sneaking up to strike him w/butt of pistol. Men on the ground fire guns upward and rainbow appears in bkg. over exploding building. Edges of artboard have printer registration labels affixed and margins show some lifting of paint along line of glue used to secure mat to painting; most notable at upper right corner. VG overall, but main image remains clean and displays Exc. w/mat in place.

Hake’s Auctions have placed an estimated value of the art at between $2,000 – $5,000 USD. At time of writing, 12 bides have been made on the art, currently sitting on $4,300 USD with 20 days remaining.
The action is due to end on the 24 of September, 2020. A piece that I’m sure will make the new owner very happy.
