King Comics UK Editions

King Comics were published by King Features Syndicate in the USA from 1966 thru until 1967. They form a part of a series of comics which commenced in 1962 under the brand of Gold Key (edition numbers 1-17), which was followed by King Comics in 1966 (edition numbers 18-28) and finally Charlton Comics in 1969 (edition numbers 30-74). The series ended in 1977 with 73 editions published (number 29 was never released).

King Features Syndicate released King Comics in the USA, however they also released at least 4 editions of Phantom comic books in the UK, with a cover price printed specifically for the UK market. These editions contain the same contents within with no variation to print or art, with the only noted difference being the cover price of 10d, as opposed to the USA version of 12c.

These editions of King Comics are published in full color containing 36 pages and measure 17cm x 26cm. They are edition number 24 thru to 27, published from August 1967 to November 1967. The 10d price is visible on all 4 Phantom comic book covers in the top right hand header as can be seen below.

These 4 King Comics Phantom comic books were released at the same time as those in the USA, distributed in the UK by an unknown company.

King Features Syndicate released other titles in the UK which also contain a varying price on the cover to those released in the USA, including Beetle Bailey (edition numbers 61-64), Blondie (edition numbers 171-174), Flash Gordon (edition number 7-10), Mandrake the Magician (edition number 7-10), and Popeye (edition number 88-91). Just like the Phantom, these comic book characters too only saw 4 comic book editions released in the UK from August 1967 to November 1967.
