Currently open for bidding on the Heritage Auctions website, we see two original Ray Moore Phantom comic strip art for sale.


Ray Moore The Phantom Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-3-1946 (King Features Syndicate, 1946). Most of Queen Pera’s suitors are sent packing. Except, that is, for her un-willing suitor… The Phantom! Whereas the top tier features all the men, the bottom tier has some lovely panels of Queen Pera, her two attendants, and the Phantom’s dreamy girlfriend Diana! Created in ink over graphite on two sheets of Bristol board with a combined image area of 26.5″ x 18.25″. The logo in the logo panel is a photocopy replacement that has been affixed to the board for a very long time. The boards are toned and in Very Good condition.

Ray Moore The Phantom Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-17-1946 (King Features Syndicate, 1946). The Phantom rescues Diana in this Sunday, while Jorge gets to the bottom of Queen Pera’s problem. Created in ink over graphite on two sheets of Bristol board with a combined image area of 26.5″ x 18.25″. The logo stat is missing from the logo panel. The “Next Week…” strip in the last panel is a printed paste-up. The boards are toned and in Very Good condition.

Original Golden and Silver Age Phantom comic strip art from this period are not only hard to source, but highly collectible and sought after by collectors, mainly due to the simple fact that not many examples have survived, plus those that have survived rarely appear on the open market for sale.
