Franck Gohier Art Exhibition

The James Makin Gallery, based in Melbourne, Australia will be exhibiting art by Franck Gohier, from the 7th of May, through until the 23rd of May, 2021.

The French born artist is based in Darwin, Australia where he established the Red Hand Prints studio with Shaun Poustie in 1996.

Reading though the Red Hand Prints website, we learn a little more about the studio and it’s motivations:

The first stage of Red Hand Prints started in Darwin, Australia, in 1996 when Franck Gohier established Red Hand Prints with Shaun Poustie as an open access Printmaking studio that offered free, expert printmaking tuition to the Darwin community, and a professional Fine Art editioning program to numerous Aboriginal communities throughout the Kimberley’s, the Tiwi Islands, Arnhem Land and Central Australia.

In 1998, Poustie left for Sydney to study Fine Art, thus marking the transition to the second period of Red Hand Prints.

It was within this time that Red Hand produced a high volume of politically and socially motivated posters – made using the profits from editioning Fine Art prints. These posters were distributed gratis to the community of Darwin and nationally.

Now entering it’s third era Red Hand Prints’ focus has changed from an open access studio to a privately owned workshop primarily focused on commissioned fine art prints and the professional practice of Franck Gohier, and selected Artists.

Letterpress printing has also been a recent introduction to the studio.

The Phantom features in several of Franck’s work, with most art pieces created communicating a specific message, be it political or simply humor.

The original art pieces by Franck Gohier can be purchase via the James Makin Gallery website, or prints can be purchased on the Red Hand Prints website.
