Published on the SBS website, written by Luke Pearson in 2017, we see an interesting analysis of comic book stories either featuring Australian Indigenous heroes or comic book characters coming into contact with Australian Indigenous people.
The Phantom is featured in the article titled ‘The Wombat To Kaptn Koori – Aboriginal Representation In Comic Books And Capes’.
Although the Phantom is a US created character, his popularity in Australia has been seen/used in both entertainment and educational purposes.
The article highlights a Team Fantomen story (from Sweden) where the Phantom makes a trip to Australia and assists an Australian Indigenous Tribe.
Also noted are educational booklets published by the Australian Government in aiding Australian Indigenous people navigate through social activities such as voting and the family court.
Phantom stories have also been published in Australian Indigenous languages, including Maung.
