Fantomen Weekly Advertisement

An advertisement was printed in Fantomen comic book edition number 12, published by Serieförlaget in Sweden in 1958, notifying readers that Fantom comic books would be released on a weekly basis, every Wednesday. It also notifies readers that not only comic strip stories would be published within the comic book, but also additional content such as free inclusions, games, puzzles and short stories.

The front and back cover of the Fantomen comic book edition number 12, which contains this advertisement can be seen below.

The Fantomen Weekly Advertisement is found on the inside front cover of the comic book printed in black and white. An image of the Phantom is seen in a crossed arm standing pose, an illustration by George Camitz.

We first see the Phantom in this crossed arm standing pose as seen in the advertisement on the cover of Fantomen comic book edition number 1, published in 1951, the second year of Fantomen comic books being published in Sweden by Serieförlaget. The cover art is completed by George Camitz.

Fantomen comic book edition number 15, published in 1958 as noted in the advertisement above can be seen below, illustrated by Rolf Gohs. It contains a recreated image of the Fantomen comic book cover as seen above from 1951. The Fantomen cover illustrated by Rolf Gohs in 1958 sees a more detailed and lifelike painted illustration of the Phantom.

The front cover of Fantomen comic book edition number 15, published in 1958 as seen above announces to readers, ‘Now The Phantom Comes Every Wednesday! Two New Series And Giant Prize Competition!’.

In 1957, the prior year to the Fantomen Weekly Advertisement appearing, only 26 editions of Fantomen comic books were published. The year this advertainment appeared, 1958, 38 editions of Fantomen comic books were published. The following year, 1959, the number of Fantomen comic book editions to be published would drop to 27.
