Seriepressen

Seriepressen (which translates to The Serial Press) was published by Semic Press in Sweden on the 28th of August 1983. The newspaper insert was produced to advertise the various comic books being published by Semic Press at the time, with a sample comic strip published within. The various comic book characters featured are the Phantom, 91:an, Modesty Blaise, Beetle Bailey, Bobo, Steve Roper and Lilla Fridolf. Mad Magazine is also advertised on the back page.

Seriepressen contains 16 pages printed in a mix of color and black and white pages measuring 28cm x 41cm. An image of the Phantom and 91:an is seen on the front cover of the insert, an illustration by Folke Hallin. The front and back covers can be seen below.

Each comic book character is featured on a 2 page spread, except for Beetle Bailey, published only on one page, page 3. A small biography of the character is provided by Semic Press, with a coupon to subscribe to that particular comic book series also printed. The Phantom is featured on pages 4 and 5, with a specially produced short story written by Ulf Granberg and illustrated by Hans Lindahl printed. The story would later be published in Fantomen comic book number 25-26 in 2016 by Egmont Publishing AB under the title of ‘Bandits in the Gordo Pass’.

The 2 pages published in Seriepressen featuring the Phantom printed in black and white, under his Swedish title of Fantomen, can be seen below.

The Seriepressen newspaper insert seen above is the only one produced to feature the Phantom.
