Paquito

Paquito comics were published by Editorial Panamericana in Mexico. Two separate series were produced under the Paquito title, with the Phantom published under the name of ‘El Fantasma’, as the Phantom is known in Mexico.

Series 1

The first series was published from March 1935 until October 1954. 1205 comics were published in this series.

Each edition was published in a mix of black and white and also color pages, containing approximately 36 pages. A variety of characters appeared in the series, including the Phantom, Felix the Cat, Mandrake the Magician, Mickey Mouse, Popeye, Brick Bradford and more.

The Phantom appeared on the front cover in the series only a few times. Some of these front covers can be seen below.

Series 2

The second series was published from September 1952 until January 1948. 54 comics were published in this series.

Each edition was published in full color, initially containing 52 pages, then reducing to 36 pages and finally 32 pages towards the end of the series. The size of each comic also varied throughout the series, itinually released at 18.5cm x 25.5cm, then reducing to 18cm x 25cm.

Editorial Panamericana published other comic book characters under it’s ‘Paquito’ heading, such as Popeye and Mandrake the Magician, with each series identified by it’s numbering system. The Phantom series edition number commenced with 100, then the comic book number (e.g. issue number 26 was numbered 10026).
