This Magazine Is Crazy was published by Charlton Comics Group in USA from July 1957 thru till March 1959. A total of 7 editions were published, with the theme of the series being humor/satire-parody, containing a mix of humorous stories, cartoons and advertisements, a publication created to compete with the highly popular MAD Magazine series,
The magazine series commenced with a publication number of volume 3, edition number 2, with no preceding editions in the series under the title of ‘This Magazine Is Crazy’, as seen on the inside contents page on page 1. We’re also told that the publisher is Humor Magazines, Inc. with each magazine due to be released on a quarterly basis. The series continues on from Charlton Comics Group humor/satire-parody series titled ‘From Here To Insanity’.

This Magazine Is Crazy volume 3, edition number 2 (the actual first edition in the series) contains an image of the Phantom on the cover, which is illustrated by Jack O’Brien, alongside a large number of other comic characters/celebrities, including Little Orphan Annie, Popeye, The Little King, Joe Palooka, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Jimmy Durante, Sad Sack, Snuffy Smith, Marlon Brando, Archie, The Lone Ranger, Frank Sinatra, Alfred E. Neuman, Edward G. Robinson, Jerry Lewis, Dagwood Bumstead, Mickey Finn, and many more. The front and back cover of this edition can be seen below.


This Magazine Is Crazy volume 3, edition number 2 as seen above is titled ‘The Great ‘Pelvis’ Secret!’, with a parody of entertainer Elvis Presley being the focal image. It contains 64 color and black and white pages and measures 8.5” x 11” with a cover price of $0.25. We also see the month the magazine was released in, July, plus the publisher, ‘A Charlton Publication’.
The Phantom is featured on the front cover only, and isn’t found within the magazine.
