Quartier – La revue BD de Hauteville (which translates to Neighborhood – The Hauteville Comic Book Magazine), is a series published by Vide Cocagne in France from 2003 thru till 2006. The series comprises of 38 individual editions published on a monthly basis, all issued in French, showcasing a diverse array of local writers and artists.
‘Quartier’ was a French comic magazine published by Vide Cocagne in Hauteville commencing in 2003, conceived by two architecture students, Fabien Grolleau and Thierry Bedouet. The magazine featured a variety of comic strips and illustrations, showcasing the work of emerging and established artists. Vide Cocagne, known for promoting independent and alternative comics, used Quartier as a platform to highlight diverse storytelling and artistic styles within the French comic scene. While specific details about individual issues or contributing artists are limited, the magazine contributed to the rich tapestry of early 2000s French independent comics.
The series was presented in a distinctive manner, wherein the comic strip stories were printed on a folded A3 size page measuring 6.6cm x 9,9cm. Each page was folded into 18 comprising of a comic strip story, with the storyline developing progressively as the page is unfolded. Each edition was subsequently enclosed in a handmade blister pack ‘Document’ satchel, akin to those commonly associated with freighted packages, containing 36 comic panels.
Edition numbers 12 and 14 were published in 2004 in black and white, featuring a comic strip story authored and illustrated by Fabien Grolleau. The title of edition number 12 is ‘HAUTEVILLE Domaine central’, which translates to ‘HAUTEVILLE Central area’, while edition number 14 is entitled ‘HAUTEVILLE Quartier des affaires (suite de “Domaine central”)’, translating to ‘HAUTEVILLE Business District (continuation of “Central area”)’.
