The ‘EC’ Mad Magazine/Comic Book series was founded by Harvey Kurtzman in 1952 and published by William/Bill Gaines and edited by Al Feldstein. MAD Magazine, with its mix of adolescent silliness and political humor has become one of the most famous US humor based comic book series.
The first 23 issues were in comic book format and converted to magazine format beginning with issue number 24.
In MAD’s early year’s, four to seven issues were printed per year, between 1959 and 1994 it settled for roughly eight. Beginning in 1994 monthly issues were distributed until 2010 when the publication became bi-monthly.
Over the years the company has changed hands several times which include such names as ‘Kinney Parking Company’, who also owned National Periodicals, a.k.a. DC Comics and Warner Bros. Finally being purchased by AT&T in 2018.
