Gibilândia

Gibilândia is a fanzine published by Guedes Manifesto Editorial Productions in Brazil. Produced under the direction of journalist, writer and editor Roberto Guedes, the series began in June 2001 as a theoretical fanzine focusing on comics, featuring extensive dossiers on topics of significant interest to comic fans. Initially, three editions were published.

Roberto Guedes, the driving force behind Gibilândia, has an extensive background in the comics industry, having worked as a writer, editor, translator, and biographer. His contributions include biographies of notable figures like Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

In April 2010, Guedes established a virtual comics group named Gibilândia, comprising collectors, artists, writers, journalists and enthusiasts passionate about comics, books, films and TV series. This group’s collective desire to produce an official fanzine led to the revival of Gibilândia in March 2019, which is still being produced to this day, with 38 edition published as at February 2025.

The relaunched Gibilândia fanzine showcases rare and previously unpublished comics in Brazil, along with exclusive articles and artwork, publishing various special editions and crossovers.

Edition number 19 released in February 2022 features the Phantom on the front cover, an illustration by Luiz Fernando Guimarães, which was originally published in Brazil in 1953 on the cover of the O Fantasma Magazine comic book series. This edition contains 36 black and white pages measuring 15cm x 21cm in Portuguese text.

Published within is a feature dedicated to the Phantom, translated to English titled ‘The Secrets of The Phantom’, written by Roberto Guedes. This feature details the history of the Phantom and his portrayal in Brazilian comic books.
