Força Máxima

Força Máxima is a Fanzine series produced in Brazil by Guedes Manifesto Editorial Productions and helmed by the experienced journalist, writer, and editor Roberto Guedes, this series stands out for its in-depth exploration of various facets of the comics world. Guedes, with a rich background that includes editing Phantom magazines in Brazil and authoring biographies of comic luminaries such as Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, infuses Força Máxima with a level of expertise and passion that elevates it beyond a typical fanzine.

At its core, Força Máxima is distinguished by its focused thematic approach. Each issue delves deep into a specific subject, whether it’s a particular comic character, a celebrated author, or a distinct genre like superheroes, science fiction, horror, or humor. This dedication to single-topic immersion provides readers with a comprehensive and engaging experience, making each edition a valuable resource for enthusiasts seeking detailed insights.

The series has also undergone a significant transformation in its physical presentation. Initially, Força Máxima adhered to the smaller, more intimate format typical of fanzines. However, beginning with its tenth edition, the publication evolved into a more substantial magazine format. This expansion saw a notable increase in page count, with recent issues, such as the June 2025 release, reaching an impressive 52 pages, signaling a commitment to providing even more extensive content.

Several issues of Força Máxima highlight its commitment to unique and often rare content. Edition number 5, for instance, was a special devoted to Atlas Comics, featuring classic stories of characters like Marvel Boy and the inaugural appearance of the Black Knight. This particular edition offered readers a glimpse into the foundational era of what would later become Marvel Comics.

Edition number 11, published in June 2025, contains 52 pages and measures 21cm x 28cm, is dedicated to the Phantom. This issue included reproductions of two classic Phantom stories previously published in Brazil titled ‘O Tesouro Submerso’ (translating to ‘The Submerged Treasure’ is an adaptation of the Lee Falk and Ray Moore story, ‘The Singh Brotherhood’) and ‘Os Invasores da Floresta Negra’ (translating to The Invaders of the Black Forest).

Cover art is by Gutemberg Monteiro and colored by John Castelhano. Monteiro, a significant Brazilian artist with a notable presence in the American market depicted the Phantom in his customary Brazilian red costume.
