Yeni Kızılmaske Süper Maceralar (which translates to New Phantom Super Adventures) is a comic book series published by Demirbaş Yayıncılık in Istanbul, Turkey from 2011 thru till 2013. A total of 5 editions were published in the series, all licensed by King Features Syndicate.
Demirbaş Yayıncılık is a notable independent Turkish publishing house, spearheaded by editor and publisher Cem Demirbaş, that carved out a specific niche in the Turkish comic book market during the 2000s and 2010s. Operating with a deep appreciation for classic adventure and pulp art, the publisher became recognized for reviving and sustaining iconic European and American comic series that historical generations of Turkish readers grew up loving. Rather than focusing on contemporary superhero trends, Demirbaş prioritized classic formatting and traditional, often black-and-white, adventure stories that appealed heavily to dedicated collectors and nostalgic enthusiasts.
The publisher’s portfolio heavily reflects the historic Turkish love affair with Fumetti (Italian comic books) and classic American adventure strips. Among their most prominent outputs were new editions and special volumes of Teksas (Il Grande Blek), created by the famous Italian trio EsseGesse. Alongside Teksas, Demirbaş Yayıncılık published titles like Akim (the Italian jungle lord character created by Roberto Renzi and Augusto Pedrazza), Alex Raymond’s legendary sci-fi strip Flash Gordon (published as Yeni Gordon), and European adventure titles like Delta and Stormy. They also curated multi-story anthologies like Saloon, capturing the sweeping vistas of the American Western, which has always held a legendary status in Turkish comic culture.
What truly sets Demirbaş Yayıncılık apart in Turkish comic history is its occasional, highly unorthodox approach to local adaptation. Beyond simply translating Italian or American scripts, the publisher famously experimented with localized, collage-style pastiches. A prime example of this occurred in their Yeni Teksas Özel Sayı (New Teksas Special Issue) series, where panels from original Italian Blek stories were heavily modified, rearranged, and rewritten to place the classic heroes in absurd, distinctly Turkish historical contexts. In one notorious local adventure, the characters used a time machine to travel to historic Istanbul and the battlefields of Çanakkale (Gallipoli). This unique blend of classic preservation and eccentric, local pulp creativity solidified Demirbaş Yayıncılık’s reputation as a fascinating, fiercely independent chapter in Turkey’s rich comic publishing tapestry.
