The Phantom Ölümsüz Ruh

The Phantom Ölümsüz Ruh (which translates to ‘The Immortal Spirit’) was published by TB Yayıncılık in Turkey in 2010. Although we see a comic book number on the front cover, edition number 1, only one comic book was published in the series. The comic is fully licensed by King Features Syndicate.

TB Yayıncılık is a specialized Turkish independent publisher that, while maintaining a diverse catalog across academic, educational, and linguistic fields, earned a unique spot in Turkish popular culture through targeted niche entries into the comic book market. Operating primarily out of Istanbul during the late 2000s and early 2010s under editors like Beyhan Şerifoğlu, the house established a reputation for balancing highly specific academic publications with sudden, high-quality ventures into beloved international popular fiction.

In mainstream educational and cultural circles, TB Yayıncılık is recognized for producing niche reference materials, supplementary course books, and language education texts. A prime example of their specialized scholarly focus is their publication of advanced academic texts such as Latin Fiil Çekimleri (Latin Verb Conjugations), which stood out as a rare, dedicated resource for classical language study in the Turkish market. This side of the publisher catered directly to university-level researchers, philologists, and advanced language students.

However, for comic book historians and collectors, TB Yayıncılık is best remembered for a brief but notable venture into the world of classic adventure strips in 2010. They surprised the Turkish comic community by acquiring the rights to Lee Falk’s legendary character, publishing a sleek, full-color edition titled The Phantom – Ölümsüz Ruh (The Immortal Spirit), featuring cover art by Esra Kara. Though their footprint in the çizgi roman (comic book) world was relatively compact compared to massive dedicated comic houses, TB Yayıncılık’s high-quality production of the Phantom remains a sought-after collector’s item and a fascinating chapter where academic precision met classic pulp appreciation.

The Phantom Ölümsüz Ruh is a softcover comic book published in full color with gloss pages, containing 60 pages measuring 16.5cm x 23.5cm. The front and back cover can be seen below.

We find the story title published on the front cover ‘Kanlı Elmas’, which translates to ‘Stones of Blood’, a Phantom comic strip story written by Ben Raab and illustrated by Pat Quinn.
