Skippern (which translates to ‘The Skipper’) was printed in Norway by Allers on a weekly basis, commencing on the 26th of April 1947 (see the first edition below) until the 6th of June, 1959. A total of 452 editions were published.

Skippern was printed in a mix of color pages, plus black and white, generally containing from 16 to 32 pages, in a large newspaper style format, measuring 33.8 cm x 25 cm. From issue number 55, printed on the 11th of June, 1955, the size was reduces to measure 24.9 cm x 17 cm.

Various comic strip characters appeared in Skippern, including Prince Valiant, Popeye, Corporal Lance, Johnny Hazard, Rip Kirby, Mandrake The Magician, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse and of course, the Phantom.

The Phantom appeared on various Skippern covers, not only in comic strips within the publication. We first see the Phantom appearing on the cover of number 24, published on the 24th of November, 1951.
