Phantom L’Uomo Mascherato

Phantom L’Uomo Mascherato was published by Fratelli Spada Editori in Italy in December 1973. The hardcover album style comic book is part of a series of six books, with the Phantom only found in one edition.


Fratelli Spada, which translates to Spada Brothers, was established by Giuseppe Spada in Rome, Italy in 1957. Fratelli Spade published magazines, books and comic books.

The Fratelli Spada comic book arm focused on featuring comic characters from America, including the Phantom, Flash Gordon, Mandrake the Magician, Prince Valiant, Rip Kirby and Secret Agent X-9.

In 2012, Fratelli Spade ceased operating.


Phantom L’Uomo Mascherato contains a hardcover with 180 color pages measuring 20cm x 27.5cm with Italian text. The comic book contains two classic Phantom comic strip stories, both written by Lee Falk, both parts of ‘War In The Jungle’ illustrated by Ray Moore and both parts of ‘Bullets Town’ illustrated by Sy Barry. The front and back cover can be seen below, with the front cover containing images illustrated by both Ray Moore and Mario Caria.

The initial collection of six volumes, marked by the straightforward inscription ‘Fratelli Spada Editori’ on the spine, was released in December 1973. Subsequently, a year later, in December 1974, the second collection of six volumes was published, featuring a stylized “S” on the spine alongside the previously mentioned inscription, ‘Fratelli Spada Editori’.
