The Gibi Especial comic book series was published by RGE in Brazil from February 1975 thru till December 1975. 8 softcover comic books were published in the series, with the Phantom appearing in only 1 edition. Other comic book characters published in the series, some appearing more then once, are The Spirit, Ferdinando, The Panthers, Sir Terere, Prince Valiant and Nick Holmes.
From edition number 6, the title found on the front cover changes from ‘Gibi Especial’ to ‘Gibi Mensal’.
RGE (Rio Gráfica E Editora) located in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, a Subsidiary of ‘Grupo Globo’ was founded by Roberto Marinho in 1952 which ceased operations in 1986. For over 35 years, RGE published a multitude of comic books, magazines and collectible pop culture related collectibles.
The Phantom is published in edition number 2, released in May 1975. It contains 84 black and white pages, measuring 21cm x 27cm. The Lee Falk and Ray Moore classic Phantom story ‘The Sky Band’ is published, initially published in daily newspapers in 1936.
The title ‘Fantasma’ is found on the front cover, with the title of the Phantom story also seen, ‘Os Piratas do Céu’. Cover art is by Walmir Amaral and text within the comic is in Portuguese. The front and back covers can be seen below.
