Le Fantome comic books were published by Futuropolis in France from 1984 thru till 1986. Three album style hardcover comic books are found in the set, publishing classic Phantom daily newspaper comic strip stories written by Lee Falk and illustrated by Ray Moore, in order of their release by year.
Futuropolis was established in 1972 by Étienne Robial and Florence Cestac in Paris, France as a book shop. They released their first book in 1974 under the brand of ‘Éditions Futuropolis’.
In 1980, Futuropolis released a series of licensed hardcover album style comic books focusing on American newspaper comic strip characters, including Batman, Superman, Mandrake the Magician, Betty Boop, Krazy Kat, Polly, Popeye, Red Ryder, Secret Agent X9, Little Annie, Juliette Jones, Bob L’viateur, Prince Valiant, Buz Sawyer, Brick Bradford, Dick Tracey, Zorro Jungle Jim, Connie, Blondie and more.
The Phantom was also amongst these characters to be featured under his French title of ‘Le Fantome’, fully licensed by King Features Syndicate.
Futuropolis continues to publish and release books to this day, covering a wide range of topics and genre, sold in both physical stores and online.
The Le Fantome comic books are published in black and white containing between 94 to 128 pages in landscape format, measuring 31cm x 25cm. All editions contain a full wraparound dust jacket in color with a gloss finish. The comic strip text has been translated from English to French, with the title of the stories found within each edition printed on the front cover.
