Fantomet Spesial

Fantomet Spesial (which translates to Phantom Sepcial) is a comic book series published in Norway from 1995 thru till 2001. The series contains a total of 10 editions, with the first 3 editions published by Bonnier Publications/Semic AS, with the remaining 7 editions published by Egmont Serieforlaget. This series served as a companion title to the long-running Fantomet comic series being published by Egmont Serieforlaget in Norway at the time.

The 10 editions are printed with black and white pages, containing from 96 up to 156 pages measuring 17cm x 26cm with Norwegian text. Front cover designs altered throughout the series, with some editions containing the series title ‘Fantomet Spesial’, whilst some other editions containing the edition number. All 10 editions can be seen below.

Fantomet Spesial published longer stories, rare material and themed collections that didn’t fit into the regular biweekly series. The core content revolved around Lee Falk stories featuring reprints of Sunday and daily comic strips from the 1930s through to the 1970s. These editions gave Norwegian readers access to classic adventures that were either never published before in Norway or had been long out of print.

Fantomet Spesial also included editorial features, historical articles and artwork focused on the legacy of the Phantom and his creators. These publications were aimed more at collectors and long-time fans, with a nostalgic tone and a slightly more mature or archival appeal than the mainline comic.
