Fantomen: Den Vandrande Vålnaden (The Phantom: The Ghost Who Walks) was published by Story House Egmont in Sweden in October 2024. The hardcover album style comic book collection is Egmont’s ongoing dedication to preserving classic comic strip heritage.
Fantomen: Den Vandrande Vålnaden is designed in a traditional European album format containing 50 full color pages measuring 21cm x 30cm. The comic book features iconic cover art illustrated by the legendary Swedish comic artist Rolf Gohs. The dramatic composition portrays the Phantom seated thoughtfully on a stone throne holding a skull, flanked by his loyal wolf Devil, with bold classic typography framing the piece against a border adorned with skull motifs.
Inside, the collection curates classic newspaper continuity stories originally created by master creators Lee Falk alongside legendary artists Sy Barry and Wilson McCoy. Readers are treated to thrilling narrative arcs such as “Kimberlykuppen” (The Kimberly Diamonds), “Jägarna” (The Hunters), and the suspenseful exploits featuring the “Bröderna Gibs” (The Gibs Brothers).
Additionally, the volume incorporates shorter narrative backup material to round out the nostalgic reading experience, including “Sagan om Mopsy” (Mopsy’s Story) by Alan Sonne. This thoughtful curation highlights the enduring legacy of the character across decades of international syndication and regional European publishing history.
