Fantomet is the title for a comic book series published by E-voke in Denmark commencing July 2024. The hardcover album style comic books, four in total to date, ave been published under the title of ‘Fantomet: Legenden Vender Tilbage’ which translates to ‘The Phantom: The Legend Returns’.
E-voke is an independent Danish comic book publishing house based in Ringsted, Denmark, founded and operated by the husband-and-wife duo Lars and Lea Christiansen. Both holding backgrounds as library information specialists (with Lars additionally bringing decades of graphic design experience), the couple launched the venture with a dedicated focus on bringing high-quality international comics to the Danish market. The publisher prides itself on curation, prioritizing high production values, solid storytelling, and premium artwork across a vast array of genres, ranging from classic pulp and European adventure strip revivals to contemporary graphic novels.
The publisher has become widely recognized for breathing new life into legendary adventure properties that had long vanished from Danish newsstands. Notably, E-voke spearheaded a major classic comic renaissance by reintroducing The Phantom (Fantomet) to Danish readers in high-quality, hardcover collector albums under the title “Fantomet: Legenden vender tilbage”, marking the character’s first dedicated Danish publication in twenty-five years since the original comic book run ended in 1999. Their curated collections seamlessly blend classic newspaper dailies and Sundays, vintage 1970s material, and modern international contributions, alongside the welcome print return of fellow Lee Falk creation, Mandrake the Magician.
Beyond classic comic strips, E-voke boasts an expansive, diverse portfolio that bridges historical eras and art styles. Their catalog spans a wide range of Euro-classical and international titles, featuring prominent sci-fi and western works by celebrated creators like Richard Corben, Stefano Casini, and Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri, alongside legendary series such as Storm by Don Lawrence and Martin Lodewijk’s Agent 327. By maintaining a rigorous release schedule and frequently presenting their books at premier regional festivals like Copenhagen Comics, E-voke has successfully positioned itself as a vital champion for preserving comic book heritage while introducing fresh, high-caliber international narratives to Scandinavian enthusiasts.
The Fantomet hardcover comic books contain approximately 128 black and white pages measuring 22cm x 29cm with Danish text. Several Phantom comic strip stories are published per edition, with the Phantom seen in a blue costume on all front covers as he’s known in Denmark.
