The Defenders of the Earth comics are published by Zauberstern Comics in Germany in June 2024. The 4 comic book set reprints comic strip stories originally published by Marvel Comics under their Star Comics brand in the USA in 1987, with the main characters being Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Mandrake the Magician and Lothar who battle Ming the Merciless in a futuristic world.

This original comic book series was written by Stan Lee, Bob Harras and Michael Higgins and illustrated by Alex Saviuk and Fred Fredericks. The series contains 4 comic books, which can all be seen below, with the Phantom appearing on 3 of the 4 front covers.

The set released by Zauberstern Comics reprints the original series, printed with full color pages and has been translated to German. The series was sold as a 4 comic book set and couldn’t be ordered individually, with a limited print run of 250 sets, licensed by King Features Syndicate.

The series was originally sold at the Comicsalon event in Erlangen, Germany, with surplus editions sold online via the Zauberstern Comics website from the 10th of June thru till the 23rd of June 2024. Each edition contains 28 color pages measuring 29.5cm x 21cm. The cover is printed on 300 gr. paper, with internal pages printed on 135 gr. semi-matt paper.
