Correio Universal

Correio Universal (which translates to ‘Universal Mail’) was published by Livraria Civilização in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the 27th of April 1937. It’s the first comic book published in Brazil to solely feature the Phantom.

Titled O-Fantasma Voador, the hard cover comic book was partially printed in black and white and also color, with cover art by Calmon Barreto.

The comic contains 96 pages in landscape format, measuring 37.5cm x 27cm, with a Lee Falk and Ray Moore classic Phantom story published, ‘The Singh Brotherhood’. The comic book is numbered 216-A by Livraria Civilização. The front and back cover can be seen below.

The follow-up issue to Correio Universal, also published by Livraria Civilização, is edition number 241-A, released on the 17th of November, 1937 titled ‘Os Piratas do Céo’, which translates to ‘The Pirates Of The Sky’. The Lee Falk and Ray Moore classic Phantom story, ‘The Sky Band’ is published.
