Black – The Best Comics

Black – The Best Comics is a comic book series published by Mikros Iros Publications in Greece from December 2019. The series continues to be published on a bimonthly basis containing a mix of comic book characters per edition, including Superman, Storm, Maddy Riley, Corto Maltese, Tarzan, Kid Panther and Judge Dredd. The Phantom has also been published in all editions.


Mikros Iros Publications was established by Stelios Anemodouras in Greece in 1949, originally trading under the name of ‘Anemodouras Publications’ as a publishing house. They predominantly publish comic books, leisure magazines and teen focused magazines.

In 1953, they commencing publishing the famous series ‘Mikros Iros’, which translates to ‘Little Hero’, printed for 16 years on a weekly basis. In the field of comics, Stelios Anemodouras also published the famous Blek, Zagor, Mister No and Peripeteia. In the field of leisure magazines, he published popular weekly titles including Grifos, Koyiz, Savvato and in the field of teen magazines the Katerina, Super Katerina and Afisorama.

In 2018, the publishing house entered a new revival era, with the publication of the bimonthly magazine ‘Black-The Best Comics’, a rich anthology of comics featuring heroes from the past, including Storm, Maddy Riley, Corto Maltese, Tarzan, Kid Panther, Judge Dredd, Phantom and more. Luxurious graphic novels of classic comic book characters were also released, such as Zagor, Mr. No, Tex and Dylan Dog.

In 2020 saw the release of award-winning ‘Blacksad’ (Canales, Guarnido) and ‘Fax From Sarajevo’ (Kubert).

Mikros Iros Publications continues to publish a wide range of classic and contemporary comics to this day, with Leokratis in charge of the publishing house, the grandchild of Stelios Anemodouras. New and classic comic strip stories are currently being published, featuring comic book characters such as the Phantom, Batman, The Flash, Zagor, Tex, Dylan Dog, Superman, Corto Maltese and many more.


Black – The Best Comics contain from 132 to 164 color pages measuring 17cm x 24cm. Informative articles are also featured in the comic books, alongside comic strip stories. The Phantom has appeared on a variety of front covers, either as a full page image or as a profile image.
