Nasta Industries, Inc. was a prominent toy and novelty manufacturer best known during the late 1970s and 1980s as a primary producer of “rack toys” inexpensive items packaged on cardboard blister cards and hung on metal pegboards at grocery stores, pharmacies, and department store checkout aisles. Based out of New York with manufacturing operations heavily centered in Hong Kong, Nasta carved out a profitable niche by acquiring popular licenses and producing lower-cost, eccentric merchandise that larger, high-end toy companies typically overlooked.

Rather than focusing strictly on traditional action figures or die-cast vehicles, Nasta stood out by turning high-profile intellectual properties into everyday play items and accessories. Their catalog featured licensed products starring iconic characters from DC Comics (like Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman), Marvel (The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man), Disney, Nintendo, and Hanna-Barbera. Instead of standard playsets, Nasta utilized these properties to sell uniquely styled novelty items such as character-branded sunglasses, play canteens, sandals, mini water pistols, plastic jump ropes, playing cards, and wind-up figures.

In addition to character licensing, Nasta expanded into child-sized electronic gadgets and roleplay toys throughout the 1980s. They manufactured battery-operated fashion doll furniture, walkie-talkies, flashlight sets, sound-producing novelty items, and wearable audio gear like their “Sound Wear” personal speaker lines. While Nasta’s lightweight plastic products were built for quick impulse buys rather than long-term durability, many of their intact sealed items have become highly prized vintage collectibles among retro pop-culture enthusiasts today.
