The Universal Studios Islands of Adventure Photos Album was produced by Universal Studios in USA in 1998. The album is deigned to display photos, sold as a gift item at the Islands of Adventure photography gift shop, at the Orlando, USA Universal Studios theme park.
Islands of Adventure opened on the 28th of May 1999 in Orlando, USA as a theme park. It was originally named ‘Universal Studios Islands of Adventure’ and later it changed it’s name to ‘Universal’s Islands of Adventure’.
The theme park is divided by a number of island, each themed around movies and comic book characters, including Port of Entry, Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Skull Island, Jurassic Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, The Lost Continent, and Seuss Landing.
Found at the Islands of Adventure theme park on the Toon Lagoon island is a photography gift shop themed after comic book characters published as comic strips in our Sunday newspapers, commonly referred to as ‘Sunday Funnies’. The shop is named ‘Photo Funnies’ as can be seen below. It contains a large sign on the exterior of the building depicting an image of the Phantom.
The Universal Studios Islands of Adventure Photos Album contains spiral binding, holding thick cardboard covers on the exterior, with 30 plastic display pages found within, measuring 4.5” x 6”.
On both the front and back covers, we see a variety of comic strip panels featuring comic strip characters, including Hagar the Horrible, Denis the Menace, Popeye, Beetle Bailey, Krazy Kat and Blondie.
The Phantom is also found amongst these comic strips, seen on both the front and back covers. The 3 panel comic strip printed on the covers is illustrated by Sy Barry, as can be seen below.
