Tom Tyler E O Fantasma Serial DVD

Tom Tyler é O Fantasma (which translates to Tom Tyler is The Phantom) is a DVD released by Classicline in Brazil. The DVD contains all 15 chapters of the Phantom Serial released by Columbia Pictures in USA on the 24th of December 1943. The DVD is an unlicensed production by King Features Syndicate.

Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Fortaleza, Ceará, Classicline has established itself as a premier pillar of the Brazilian home video market. While many global distributors have pivoted exclusively to digital platforms, Classicline remains committed to the “rescue” and preservation of cinema history. They specialize in licensing and distributing vintage films, ranging from the Golden Age of Hollywood to rare European masterpieces, ensuring that these titles remain accessible to the Brazilian public in high-quality physical formats.

The company is particularly celebrated by the cinephile community for its high production standards and collector-oriented packaging. Unlike standard retail releases, Classicline often utilizes Digipacks and premium slipcovers (known locally as luvas) to transform a simple DVD or Blu-ray into a piece of memorabilia. Their catalog is meticulously organized by decade and genre, featuring curated lines like “The Trash Collection” for cult horror fans and “The Dark Places” for enthusiasts of psychological thrillers and suspense.

In the current landscape of 2026, Classicline operates as a vital independent force alongside other niche distributors like Versátil and Obras-Primas. By treating physical media as a collectible art form rather than a mere commodity, they have built a loyal following that transcends the convenience of streaming. They frequently collaborate with film historians and researchers to provide context and quality restorations, making their releases the definitive versions for Portuguese-speaking audiences.

Accessibility is a key part of their business model, as they maintain a robust e-commerce presence that serves both Brazil and Portugal. Beyond their official web store, they maintain a heavy presence on major marketplaces like Mercado Livre and Amazon, ensuring their restored Westerns, Noirs, and cult classics reach fans across the continent. Their enduring success highlights a significant trend in Brazil where physical media continues to thrive as a specialized, high-end hobby for dedicated movie lovers.

This specific Brazilian DVD release of the Phantom Serial edition by Classicline is a much more recent collectible. While Classicline has released several versions of classic serials over the years, this specific DVD packaging (part of their “Série de Ouro” or “Clássicos” collections) was most widely distributed in Brazil between 2016 and 2018.

Technical Specs of the DVD:

  • Format: DVD-9 (Dual Layer) to fit all 15 chapters.
  • Total Runtime: Approximately 260 minutes.
  • Region: All (Region 0), though it is formatted in NTSC for the Brazilian market.

The Phantom Serial featured on the DVD is the original English version in Black and White, however this version contains Portuguese subtitles, specifically produced for the Brazilin market. Only the one disc is found in the DVD case which was sealed in a clear see-through plastic wrapping.

The front cover of Tom Tyler é O Fantasma features a striking combination of classic comic book art and jungle imagery. Behind an image of the Phantom is a dense, green jungle setting. Hovering in the trees above him is a large, translucent, moss-covered skull, which represents the “Skull Cave” or the mythos of the “Ghost Who Walks”.

The image of the Phantoms was originally illustrated by Marat Mychaels, found on the front cover of ‘The Phantom: Ghost Who Walks’ edition number 8, published by Moonstone Books in the US in 2010, which can be seen below.

The back cover provides information and images on the contents of the DVD, including a small description in Portuguese on the storyline found in the Phantom Serial. Translated to English, the text reads:

Professor Davidson and his lovely daughter Diana go to Africa in search of the Lost City of Zoloz, where, according to legend, a great treasure is hidden. But their search is hindered by a charlatan who wants the treasure for himself. Later, the search becomes hampered by Dr. Bremmer, an international criminal who plans to destroy the peace with the native tribes of Zoloz and build a secret air base. Fortunately, the Phantom, Diana’s fiancé, is more than a problem for the two villains. With his incredible strength, the Phantom outwittes every adversary, escaping one deadly trap after another: avalanches, poisonous gases, and explosions that would shake his fearless spirit. With the help of his four-legged friend Capeto, he finally subdues his adversaries and brings peace to the forest once again. An exciting adventure based on one of the newspaper comic strips.
