The Phantom 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray Twin Movie Pack was released by Kino Lorber in the USA on the 14th of April 2026. Fully licensed by King Features Syndicate, the movie pack was available exclusively in the USA and Canada.
Kino Lorber stands as a cornerstone of New York’s independent film landscape, tracing its roots back to the 1976 founding of Kino International by Bill Pence. The company’s identity was solidified in 2009 through a high-profile merger with Lorber HT Digital, uniting two industry veterans—Donald Krim and Richard Lorber—to create what they playfully termed “the biggest of the little guys”. This partnership combined a deep expertise in classic film distribution with a forward-thinking approach to digital media. Following Krim’s passing in 2011, Richard Lorber has continued to lead the company as CEO, maintaining its reputation for high-quality curation while expanding its reach into modern theatrical and digital markets.
The company is perhaps most celebrated for its meticulous work in film preservation and its status as a premier “boutique” home video label. Through imprints like Kino Lorber Studio Classics, it has revitalized thousands of titles, offering high-definition 4K UHD and Blu-ray releases of everything from silent-era masterpieces like Fritz Lang’s Metropolis to beloved 20th-century hits such as The Pink Panther and Nacho Libre. By securing licensing deals with major studios like MGM, Kino Lorber has ensured that both obscure art house gems and mainstream classics remain accessible to collectors. Their commitment to the physical format remains a vital lifeline for cinephiles who value the supplemental features, historical context, and visual fidelity that streaming often lacks.
In recent years, Kino Lorber has aggressively expanded its digital footprint to adapt to the shifting media landscape. The company launched Kino Film Collection, a subscription service available as a standalone app and via Amazon Prime Video, which features a rotating library of over 4,000 titles including world cinema and festival favorites like Dogtooth and Oh, Canada. They have also diversified their portfolio by acquiring international streamers like MHz Choice and Topic, which specialize in global series and documentaries. This multi-platform strategy—combining traditional theatrical releases, high-end physical media, and niche streaming services—has allowed Kino Lorber to remain an essential hub for discovery in an increasingly fragmented entertainment industry.
The Phantom 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray Twin Movie Pack features The Phantom movie which was release on the 7th of June 1996, an Australian-American superhero film directed by Simon Wincer, staring Billy Zane as The Phantom and Kristy Swanson as Diana Palmer. The movie also stars Treat Williams, Catherine Zeta-Jones, James Remar, Hiroyuki Tagawa and Patrick McGoohan. The film’s screenplay by Jeffrey Boam is loosely inspired by three Phantom stories, “The Singh Brotherhood”, “The Sky Band” and “The Belt”.
The description seen on the Kino Lorber website promoting The Phantom movie at the time of it’s release reads:
A fantastic Billy Zane (Titanic) stars in this thrill-a-minute actioner based on one of the most successful comic series of all time! The story begins as an expedition lands on the island of Bengalla, seeking the legendary skulls of Touganda. Believed to harness an energy force of incalculable power, the skulls could spell disaster for mankind. And that’s exactly what ruthless tycoon Xander Drax (Treat Williams, Deep Rising) has in mind…unless one man can save it. Now evil has met its match and great movie adventure has a new name—The Phantom! Rousingly directed by Simon Wincer (Lonesome Dove, Quigley Down Under) and also starring Kristy Swanson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Catherine Zeta-Jones (The Mask of Zorro), James Remar (48 Hrs.), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Mortal Kombat) and Patrick McGoohan (Escape from Alcatraz).
