Superalmanaque do Fantasma Skull Ring

The Superalmanaque do Fantasma Skull Ring was produced by RGE in Brazil in 1980. The Skull Ring was a free give-away collectible with a Fantasma comic book and fully licensed by King Features Syndicate.

RGE (Rio Gráfica E Editora) located in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, a subsidiary of ‘Grupo Globo’ was founded by Roberto Marinho in 1952, ceasing operations in 1986. For over 35 years RGE published a multitude of comic books, magazines and collectible pop culture related collectibles.

Superalmanaque do Fantasma is the title of a comic book series containing 13 editions, published by RGE in Brazil, from 1980 thru till 1983. To promote the sale of the series, edition number 1 came with a Phantom Skull Ring. The 132 page softcover full color comic book contains 2 Phantom stories, Morte Rubra no Cinturão Branco (which translates to ‘Red Death in White Belt’) and O Navio Fantasma (which translates to ‘The Ghost Ship’).

On the front cover of the comic book, we see RGE notify it’s readers, ‘Gratis! O Anel da Caveira’, which translates to ‘Free! The Skull Ring’.

The Phantom Skull Ring was provided in a clear plastic pack and attached to the front cover, before being distributed to newsagents. The ring came in 2 pieces and required assembly by simply clicking the grey Skull to the red band.

Below we see the ring which was attached to Superalmanaque do Fantasma edition number 1.

Made of plastic, we see a grey Skull attached to an open red colored band to easily fit most fingers. The ring is easily dated to 1980 due to the comic book it came attached to.
