Promotional Calendars

The Promotional Calendars were produced by King Features Syndicate in New York, USA from 1991 thru till 2010. A calendar was produced on a yearly basis, a free giveaway promotional item issued around Christmas time to business partners and agents of King Features Syndicate.

King Features Syndicate, a renowned content distribution and licensing company, embarked on an innovative marketing initiative that showcased their impressive portfolio of syndicated comic strip characters via a campaign that took the form of an annual calendar series, meticulously crafted for editorial purposes and strategic distribution.

These calendars were not intended for commercial sale but served as premium promotional items. King Features disseminated them to publishing houses, business partners, and affiliated agents as complimentary gifts during the holiday season. This thoughtful gesture not only strengthened business relationships but also served to highlight the syndicate’s diverse array of beloved comic strip characters and maximize advertising revenue potential.

The artwork featured in these calendars was a curated collection, drawing from various sources within King Features’ vast archive. It included carefully selected comic strip panels and commercially released images from product advertising campaigns, offering a comprehensive view of the syndicate’s intellectual properties.

The Phantom was also featured in the Promotional Calendar series, except for years 2008, 2009 and 2010

Produced on a heavy stock with a dry erase plastic coating on the front, these calendars were designed for versatile display, suitable for both wall hanging; accompanied with adhesive strips: or desk placement. The dimensions of these promotional pieces varied, ranging from 9.5” x 8.5” to 10” by 11”, ensuring a prominent and eye-catching presence in any office or workspace. This nearly two-decade-long initiative exemplifies King Features’ commitment to innovative marketing strategies and their dedication to promoting their iconic characters and talented creators.

Of the twenty promotional calendars produced by King Features Syndicate, eighteen are presented below, with years 2003 and 2006 not featured.
