Phantom Boxer Shorts Container

The Phantom Boxer Shorts Container was produced by Davenport in Australia in 1994. This container was sold in clothing retail stores across Australia, with a pair of satin men’s boxer shorts produced by Davenport found within. Upon the removal of the boxer shorts, the container serves the dual purpose of functioning as a coin savings moneybox.

Davenport was founded by Clyde Davenport in Australia in 1987. His vision was to create a unique and fun line of underwear, targeting the large Australian market for men’s undergarments. Davenport quickly became recognized for its distinctive products, including a variety of boxers, briefs, and trunks made from high-quality cotton and known for their quirky designs, different cuts, and vibrant colors. The company’s success in Australia led to its expansion into international markets, proving that there was a global demand for their innovative and stylish approach to men’s underwear.

Among Davenport’s popular and collectible products were its licensed character-themed clothing such as boxer shorts, night gowns, neck ties and waistcoats released in the 1990s. They were made of materials like satin or polyester and were novelty items that became sought-after collector’s items after the line was discontinued. Davenport produce apparel that was not only functional and stylish but also tapped into popular culture, creating a niche for itself within the Australian clothing market.

In 2003, the Davenport Underwear Group was acquired by Gazal Corporation, an Australian company with a history dating back to 1958 and known for brands like Mambo and Bisley Workwear. The acquisition was a strategic move by Gazal to expand its intimate apparel business, complementing its existing portfolio of brands like Lovable and Oroton. As part of the deal, Clyde Davenport joined Gazal’s senior management team, ensuring his ongoing involvement with the brand he created. This transition helped Davenport leverage Gazal’s expertise in sourcing, logistics, and operations, while maintaining its strong design and marketing skills. The brand continued to be a leader in the men’s underwear and boxer short categories under its new ownership.
