The Phantom 2040 VHS & Diario set was produced by Live Entertainment Inc. in Italy in 1996. Distributed by R.C.S. Editori S.p.A throughout Italy, the set is themed after the Phantom 2040 cartoon series released in 1994, fully licensed by King Features Syndicate.

The Phantom 2040 VHS & Diario set was sold in retails stores in see-through shrink-wrap plastic, with the front of the VHS shown on one side and the Diario front cover seen on the back. A red and white ‘Special Offer’ sticker was placed on the front of the VHS notifying of the inclusion.

The front of the VHS is titled ‘Phantom 2040 – Il Fantasma Che Cammina’, which translates to ‘The Ghost Who Walks’. The Phantom is traditionally referred to as ‘L’Uomo Mascherato’ in Italy and not ‘Il Fantasma’. The ‘Il Fantasma’ title is more commonly seen on Spanish or Portuguese printed Phantom comic books and collectibles.

The VHS found in the set contains the first few chapters of the Phantom 2040 cartoon series (the first 100 minutes), and the Phantom 2040 Diario is a journal style diary book with a hardcover, with both collectibles only released in Italy.
