Phantom 2040 Lunch Box & Drink Thermos Set

The Phantom 2040 Lunch Box and Drink Thermos set was produced by Aladdin Industries Inc. in Nashville, Tennessee, USA in 1995. The lunch box and drink thermos set was designed for children to carry their food and drink to school, part of the ‘KidKits – Back To School’ range. The set is themed after the Phantom 2040 cartoon series released in 1994, fully licensed by King Features Syndicate.


Mantle Lamp Company was established by Victor Samuel Johnson, Sr. in Chicago, USA in 1908. In 1914, Aladdin Industries was created as a subsidiary to produce vacuum bottles and would later go on to manufacture lunch boxes, kerosene lamps, stoves and thermal food storage containers.

In 1950, Aladdin Industries released their first children’s lunch box themed after Hopalong Cassidy, a television show being broadcast at the time. The Hopalong Cassidy lunch box was a huge successes, selling 600,000 units in its first year. In the following years, it would continue to release lunch boxes under license featuring a variety of themes, usually accompanied by a drink thermos.

Aladdin Industries was sold to a privately owned company in 2002, Pacific Market International (PMI), with locations throughout USA, Europe, Asia and Australia. The company is still operating to this day, producing and selling vacuum flasks and other thermal products.


The Phantom 2040 lunch box is made of plastic measuring 7.5” x 8.75” when closed. It’s blue in color with a carry handle, opening via a plastic clip at the top, with a full length hinge located at the base. The lid contains a decal with an image from the Phantom 2040 cartoon series and copyright wording, with the base containing a molded image of the Aladdin Industries Inc. logo.

The Phantom 2040 drink thermos is also made of plastic, designed to fit within the lunch box. The main container is white with image from the Phantom 2040 cartoon series printed on and copyright wording. The container is produced with thick insulated sides to keep liquids hot or cold as required. The twist off lid is blue in color, doubling as a drink cup, exposing a brown twist off cap. All components contain the Aladdin Industries Inc. logo.

A cardboard tag was attached to the handle via string, which can be seen below.
