Phantom 2040 Board Game

The Phantom 2040 Board Game was released by Falomir Juegos in Spain in 1994. The game is themed after the Phantom 2040 cartoon series produced by Hearst Corporation and Minos S.A. in France airing in 1994. The game is designed for 2 to 6 players.

Juguetes Falomir, SA was founded by José Luis Falomir Alcorisa in Valencia, Spain in 1945. They initially produced hand crafted wooden and brass toys in a small workshop and would go on to produce educational and entertainment board games. Their first board game release was Parcheesi, made of a cardboard board and protected with wooden edges

In 1989, due to business growth, Juguetes Falomir, SA relocated to larger premises located just outside of Valencia, to the town of La Eliana, where they continue to operate from this location.

Juguetes Falomir, SA produced toys under the brand of ‘Falomir Juegos’, a well recognized red and blue logo containing the words Falomir Juegos in white. Their sales peaked in the early 2000s, with Falomir Juegos toys not only selling in Spain, but throughout Europe and also in the USA.

Juguetes Falomir, SA is now a third generation family operated toy manufacturing business, still in operation to this day.

The Phantom 2040 Board Game comes in a rectangular lift off lid box, with images and text for the Phantom 2040 cartoon series present on both the lid of the box and the tray. The game box was released in a clear see-through factory sealed plastic wrapping, as can be seen below.

The back of the game box contains a description of the theme of the Phantom 2040 Board Game. Translated from Spanish, it reads:

During the summer of 2040 in the futuristic city of METROPIA, KIT WALTER is an ordinary 18-year-old boy, whose life undergoes an unexpected change when he is located by GURAN, a mysterious African who has returned to METROPIA for the first time since the father of KIT had disappeared 16 years earlier. GURAN reveals to KIT that his destiny is to become the 24th PHANTOM, in an unbreakable chain that begins in Africa in 1566. Riots spread across METROPIA, and KIT must confront his father’s former enemies in an attempt to save the city.

The aim of the game is for each player to reach the futuristic city of Metropia by moving from square one through to square 93, by taking turns moving a colored pawn marker through the game board, based on a dice spin. Some squares are specially marked, requiring a special move or action to take place.

Found within the game box is a fold out game board, 6 colored pawn markers, a dice and a Falomir Juegos information sheet. Printed within the packaging in white text on a purple background in Spanish is information on the aim of the game, the game rules, plus instructions on actions to take for the specially marked squares (numbers 8, 15, 22, 28, 34, 40, 46, 52, 62, 68, 76 and 85).

The Phantom 2040 Board Game was also sold in Italy, with game instructions proved by Falomir Juegos in Italian text. Illustrations throughout the game remained the same as per the Spanish version seen above.
