The Magic Transfer Book series was produced by Self Printers Association in India between 1985 and 1989. The Magic Transfer Book packs are a group of various character transfer sheets stapled to a 11” x 5” backing board. The backing board was folded at the top to form a flip over header card, with the rear of the pack containing an instruction guide.
There is no business profile or documented information on the company ‘Self Printers Association’ other than the address of 7A & 7B Dacres Lance, Calcutta, 700 069, India. This information and the distributor’s information; ‘Crown Picture Center’ of 71, Canning Street, Calcutta Gpo. P.C. 700001, Kolkata, India were both printed on the back of the Magic Transfer Book cardboard sleeve.
We cannot identify the exact year the company began producing these ‘Magic Transfer Books’, but we can accurately date that it was at least as early as 1985, where we see evidence that one of the transfers was ‘Rambo First Blood Part 2’ which was released in 1985.
There were at least 4 different Phantom related transfer sheets sold in the Magic Transfer Book packs. All packs are believed to be unauthorized by King Features Syndicate.
