Larami Corporation Toys

A variety of Phantom novelty toys were produced by Larami Corporation in USA in the mid-1970s. The toys were aimed at young children with themes around what boys would traditionally play with, all licensed by King Features Syndicate.

The Larami Corporation was founded by David W. Ring in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA in 1959 as a toy company. It gained prominence during the early to mid-1970s for producing licensed toys based on movies and television shows. These toys, often of modest quality, were manufactured in Hong Kong and Japan and retailed for under a dollar, predominantly found on grocery store toy aisle racks.

As the 1980s unfolded, Larami diversified its product line, particularly expanding into water guns. The company introduced the Super Soaker brand in 1991, which rapidly gained popularity. In 1995, Hasbro Inc. acquired Larami Corporation, subsequently renaming it Larami Inc. The brand continued until its retirement in 2002.

The novelty Phantom toys produced by Larami Corporation were made from plastic in Hong Kong and sold in the USA. They were generally sold hosed in a see-through blister pack which was attached to a one sided illustrated backing card. The toys were sold in stores hung from a retail rack via a punch hole located at the top of the backing card.

Apart from the Phantom being featured on the backing card of the toy, the toys were a generically factory-line mass produced items, with some containing no images or correlation to the Phantom. Some toys contain decals/stickers which feature a profile image of the Phantom.

The Larami Corporation logo is found on all of the toys backing cards, together with license information and on some cases, the year of production. As the toys are generically factory-line mass produced items, some of the toys come in vary colors and in some instances, a different selection of toys are found behind the blister packs.
