The Fantomet Poster was produced by Semic/Nordisk Forlag in Norway in 1989. The poster was included in Fantomet comic number 3 as a free giveaway inclusion, attached to the centerfold of the comic book.
Fantomet comic book number 3 published in 1989 can be seen below. The front cover notifies us of the free giveaway poster inclusion. We see the publisher announce ‘Ekstra: Stor Plakat I Bladet’, which translates to ‘Extra: Large Poster In The Magazine’.

Located in the center-fold stapled to the comic, the one-sided full gloss black and white poster is found folded in four, measuring 33cm x 51.5cm once unfolded. The poster is illustrated by Knut Westad.

The Fantomet Poster is singed by Knut Westad in the center right margin of the poster and is dated by him as being illustrated in 1988, a year prior to it’s release. It depicts an illustration of the origin story of how the Phantom came to be washed on the shores of Bangali after being attacked by Singh Pirates. The lower part of the post contains the words ‘Det 1. Fantomet’, which translates to ‘The 1st Phantom’.
The illustration was also used by Semic/Nordisk Forlag to promote the Phantom in other comic book series by the same publisher, featured in full page advertisements. An example can be seen below in Batman edition number 3 published in 1989, with a full page advertisement seen on the inside front cover of the comic book.
