The Phantom Greeting Cards were produced by John Sands Cards in Australia in 1989. 12 different Greeting Cards were released and distributed in Australian news agencies.
‘Sands and Kenny’ printing company was founded by John Sands and Thomas Kenny in 1851. Some years later the company changed its name to ‘Sands, Kenny & Co’, and later ‘John Sands Ltd’. In 1881 the John Sands company became the first Australian company to issue Christmas and New Year cards. For many years “John Sands” was the primary Australian distributors of board games and computer hardware. In 1995 ‘American Greetings’ purchased John Sands.
An advertisement for these Greeting Cards is found in several of the 8 The Phantom Club of Australia ‘Product Catalogs’. Such product catalogs were occasionally enclosed with the clubs newsletters posted to members. See below example showing 11 of the 12 cards being advertised.
