The Phantom Game Of Life And Death was produced by Peter Kingston and Dietmar Lederwasch in Australia in 2016. It’s designed around the popular board game, ‘Snakes And Ladders’. The Phantom Game Of Life And Death consists of 3 pieces, the game board and 2 figures. The game is also fully licensed by King Features Syndicate.
The game was designed with art work by Peter Kingston, who also made the resin figures and hand painted them. The game boards were individually hand measured, cut and covered with buckram by Dietmar Lederwasch. This resulted in all game boards and figures being hand made and slightly different to the next.
Only 20 Phantom Game Of Life And Death sets were produced, with 17 sold to collectors, 1 each kept by Peter Kingston and Dietmar Lederwasch, plus 1 copy provided to King Features Syndicate.
The game board measures 47cm x 47.5cm, and is able to fold vertically in half. The back of the boards are all individually colored, with each board hand signed by Peter Kingston and Dietmar Lederwasch. Below we see an example of the 2 sided game board.
Each set of Phantom Game Of Life And Death games came with 2 hand painted resin figures, measuring approximately 11.5cm tall. All sets were provided with a Phantom figure, however the second figure varied from set to set, making each individual set even more unique. The second character was themed around the Phantom storyline, with figures of Diana, Guran, Devil, Jungle Patrolman, Singh Pirate, etcetera being created. Below we see an example of the Phantom, plus a Singh Pirate.
The Phantom Game Of Life And Death was produced in-conjunction with the Phantom Art Show which was touring Australia at the time (from the 9th of December 2014, through to the 29th of October 2017), curated by Peter Kingston and Dietmar Lederwasch, visiting a myriad of Art Galleries, Museums and Art Centers.
A deluxe version of the Phantom Game Of Life And Death was exhibited at each of the shows venues.
