Fantasma Skull Ring

The Fantasma Skull Ring was produced by RGE in Brazil in May, 1978. The Skull Ring was a free give-away collectible with a Fantasma comic book and fully licensed by King Features Syndicate.

RGE (Rio Gráfica E Editora) located in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, a subsidiary of ‘Grupo Globo’ was founded by Roberto Marinho in 1952, ceasing operations in 1986. For over 35 years RGE published a multitude of comic books, magazines and collectible pop culture related collectibles.

A Lua-de-Mel do Fantasma (which translates to The Phantom’s Wedding) was a special edition comic book released by RGE in May, 1978 featuring the Phantom marrying Diana Palmer. The 96 page softcover full color comic book contains 2 Lee Falk and Sy Barry classic stories, ‘The Phantom’s Wedding’ (part 2) and ‘Guardian of the Eastern Dark’.

Below we see the specially produced newsagents poster promoting this special edition comic book, plus the front cover of the comic book on the right.

On the Poster above we see the words, ‘Grátis: Anel da Caveira’ which translates to ‘Free Skull Ring’. On the front cover of the A Lua-de-Mel do Fantasma comic, we see in the lower right the words ‘pra você! O Anel da Caveira’ which translates to ‘for you! The Skull Ring’.

The Phantom Skull Ring was provided in a clear plastic pack and glued to the front cover, in the bottom right of the comic book, before being distributed to newsagents. The ring came in 2 pieces and required assembly by simply clicking the red Skull to the grey band.

Below we see the ring which was attached to the A Lua-de-Mel do Fantasma comic.

Made of plastic, we see a red Skull attached to an open grey colored band to easily fit most fingers. The ring is easily dated to 1978 due to the comic book it came attached to.
