The El Fantasma 2040 Figure was produced in Mexico in the 1990s. The figure is themed after the Phantom 2040 cartoon series released in 1994. It was produced for the local market and is unlicensed by King Features Syndicate, hence for the ‘Bootleg’ reference for the cheaply produced toy figure.

The El Fantasma 2040 Figure is made of blow mold style plastic which has been roughly hand painted and is accompanied with 2 plastic swords and a plastic gun. The toy is placed in a clear see-through plastic bag which is stapled to a one-sided cardboard backing card measuring 6” x 8.5”. The words ‘El Fantasma 2040’ is printed at the top of the yellow colored card, plus an image of the Phantom.

The El Fantasma 2040 Figure would of been sold in local market stalls and by street toy vendors throughout Mexico at a low cost to the purchaser.
