Comic Strip Umbrella

The comic strip umbrella was produced by the Daytona Beach Sunday News-Journal in the USA in 1996. Comic strip umbrella’s were produced by a variety of newspaper publications typically from the American Southwest in the mid-1990s, commonly given away complimentary with a newspaper subscription.

The comic strip umbrella is made of nylon fabric with color print on the upper section with a wooden handle, measuring 42” wide x 34” tall. The newspapers title ‘Daytona Beach Sunday News-Journal’ is seen along all sections of the umbrella along the lower edges.

The Daytona Beach Sunday News-Journal umbrella features a variety of comic strip characters in all 8 sections, usually published in the comic strip section in Sunday newspapers. These including Donald Duck, Blondie, Mickey Mouse, Hagar The Horrible, Denis The Menace, Hi and Lois, Beetle Bailey and many more. A total of 16 different comic strips are printed on the umbrella.

The Phantom is also featured, a Sunday comic strip from the story ‘The Lookout’ written by Lee Falk, printed in newspapers on the 20th of October 1996. The panel is illustrated by George Olesen and Fred Fredericks.
