Carnival Face Masks

The Carnival Face Masks were produced in Brazil in the 1970s and 1980s.

‘Carnival’ is the most popular annual holiday in Brazil. For almost a week, this 24 hour-a-day annual celebration of huge proportions unifies all of Brazil with festivities of food, music and elaborate costume celebrations. 

Throughout the years, there have been a multitude of novelty Carnival Face Masks produced for the yearly annual celebrations, made from thin cardboard paper, designed to be worn once or twice before being discarded.

2 variations of novelty Carnival Face Masks featuring the Phantom have been produced.

Carnival Face Mask – 1970s

Sold in a pack of 10 novelty Carnival Face Masks, 2 masks found in the pack are of the Phantom, as he’s known in Brazil, in his red costume. Slits are located on each side of the mask for a string to be attached to place over your face, with pre-cut push-through eye-holes and nose slit.

Carnival Face Mask – 1980s

Sold in a pack of 18 novelty Carnival Face Masks, 2 masks found in the pack are of the Phantom, as he’s known in Brazil, in his red costume. The design of this version of mask have exaggerated facial features. Slits are located on each side of the mask for a string to be attached to place over your face, with pre-cut push-through eye-holes and nose slit.
