Blockbuster VISA Bonus Box

The Phantom Blockbuster VISA Bonus Box was a promotion released by Blockbuster Video in USA in 1996.

Blockbuster was founded by David Cook in Dallas, Texas, USA on the 19th of October, 1985. Blockbuster, officially ‘Blockbuster LLC’ and also known as ‘Blockbuster Video’, was an American-based provider of home movie and video game rental services. Throughout the 1990’s Blockbuster Entertainment, Inc expanded internationally. By 2004 its peek of business, it consisted of 9,094 stores and employed approximately 84,300 people.

With the combination of a US recession, poor leadership, ‘redbox’ Video/DVD kiosks, Netflix’s mail order service the business rapidly declined. In 2010 Blockbuster filed bankruptcy with its remaining 1,700 stores being sold to “Dish Network”

In 1996, Blockbuster, in partnership with VISA credit card promoted the Phantom Movie with a 13” x 6.5” Blockbuster VISA Bonus Box, with an assortment of paper promotional items, which contained several Phantom related items.

A television commercial/promotion was also aired in 1996, in conjunction with the promotion found in Blockbuster stores.
