A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol is a hard cover book published by King Features Syndicate in New York, USA in 1946. The full wrap-around cover art is by Harold R. Foster.

The book features the timeless Christmas story by Charles Dickens, which was first published by Chapman & Hall in London, UK in 1843. It recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

This publication contains approximately 160 pages, black and white text pages within and measures 13 cm x 18 cm.

The book was possibly a free giveaway around Christmas time to business partners and agents of King Features Syndicate.

On the inside front cover, a double page image is printed, displaying King Features Syndicate’s comic book characters, with the Phantom also present.

The book also came with a ‘Slip Case’, with the book sliding in from the left. The books cover image is also present on the front of the case, with the back and spine left blank.

The cover art for A Christmas Carol later appears on the front cover of Comics Revue number 272 in December 2008, published by Manuscript Press.
