The U.S. based publishing house Mad Cave Studios has opened pre-orders for comic book number two in their second series featuring the Defenders of the Earth team.

The comic book series is based around the Defenders of the Earth cartoon series, whose main characters are Flash Gordon, the Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, and Lothar, who are all licensed by King Features Syndicate. 

Titled ‘Defenders of the Earth: Dark Destiny‘, the all original comic book series is authored by Dan DiDio, illustrated by Alex Sanchez, colored by Juancho Velez and lettering by Carlos M. Mangual. The first edition is due for released on the 10th of December 2025, with this newly listed second edition due for release on the 21st of January 2026.

The description seen in the advertisement reads:

TRIAL BY FLASH!

In the wake of Ming’s defeat, the factions of Mongo are divided. But they can all agree on one thing: It’s the Defenders’ fault! Especially that Flash Gordon!

To stave off outright murder, Flash agrees to be tried. And it’s a good thing he speaks best with his fists, because it’s a trial by combat!

Meanwhile, Rick Gordon and his friends search for Dale Arden comes to an abrupt halt when the Weather Demon attacks!

At this stage, Defenders of the Earth: Dark Destiny edition number two is only available in the one cover design, an illustration by Marco Santucci as can be seen below. Only one member of the Defenders of the Earth team is featured, Flash Gordon.
