With the release of the Phantom 2040: A New Shadow webcomic by Comics Kingdom, we also see a new design for its title image.

Phantom 2040 is a French-American animated series based on a futuristic Phantom, produced by Hearst Corporation and Minos S.A. in France. The central character of the series is the 24th Phantom. It aired on televisions from the 18th of September, 1994 thru to the 3rd of March, 1996.

A distinctive and unprecedented title design was developed for this entirely original animated series from 1994 by Thom Schillinger, who served as the Art Director and Conceptual Designer for Hearst Animation Productions. The title design features the Phantom’s upper body in his futuristic purple suit and mask set against a circular orange and red background. Below the figure, a black banner displays the series title ‘PHANTOM 2040‘, stylized with a futuristic look.

Fast-forward to 2025, King Features Syndicate has once again implemented a new branding initiative for the recently launched Phantom 2040 Webcomic, which is exclusively accessible on their digital comic website, Comics Kingdom. This new series titled ‘Phantom 2040: A New Shadow‘ is an updated take on the original Phantom 2040 animated series, including different central characters (more information HERE).

Those who’ve headed over to the Comics Kingdom website to read Phantom 2040: A New Shadow would of noticed a new title design for the Webcomic. This all original and new title design has been created by RGB Designs (found on Facebook HERE). They’ve shared on their social pages not only the final design as seen on the Comic Kingdom website, but also other designs which were rejected, which can be seen below.

The final title design adopted displays a modern, multi-tiered title design as can be seen below. The words ‘PHANTOM 2040‘ dominate the top in large, bold, 3D-effect red lettering. The bottom section features a wide purple banner which holds the subtitle ‘A NEW SHADOW‘. An image of a person, likely a silhouette image of the Phantom is seen in the center omitting a bright, starburst-like light, adding a dynamic and futuristic sci-fi element to the overall presentation.

Phantom 2040: A New Shadow was officially released on the 24th of September 2025. It’s written by Alex Segura and Michael Moreci with art by John Amor and edited by Alex Garcia and is scheduled to consist of 20 chapters. New installments are made available weekly every Wednesday on the Comics Kingdom website, which can be accessed HERE.
